Green
Power allows Tri-County Electric to collect landfill gas to us
as fuel,
and it can power our future.
What
is Green Power?
Green Power, generated by Santee Cooper and distributed by
Tri-County Electric Cooperative, is electricity created from
methane gas captured at landfills operated by the Horry County
Solid Waste Authority and Lee County Landfill SC, LLC. This
program is the result of strong consumer interest and Tri-County
Electric's commitment to being good stewards of the environment
and partners in the community.
How much does it
cost?
For just a dime a day for a month, you give Tri-County Electric
the power to collect these gases to use as fuel to generate
electricity. Each 100 kilowatt-hour block will add $3 to your
monthly electric bill. There are no extra costs or equipment to
buy, and you won't have to change your lifestyle one bit. 100%
of all Green Power revenues will be applied to future renewable
energy projects.
Is it clean?
Green Power traps methane, a greenhouse gas that can harm the
environment, and turns it into useful energy. And it's renewable
energy, with no waste.
How effective is
it?
For just two dimes a day, we can have the environment impact of
recycling half a ton of newspapers or over 10,000 aluminum cans
a year, or not driving your car for nearly three months. You
will notice no difference in your electric service.
How do I
participate?
Green Power is a totally voluntary program. Participation in
Green Power is voluntary by Tri-County Electric Cooperative and
its customers. A customer may discontinue participation in Green
Power at any time. Tri-County Electric and Santee Cooper may
alter, amend or end Green Power at any time.
